Severstal acquires African Iron Ore Group Ltd (AIOG) in Western Africa. After the acquisition, AIOG changes its name to Severstal Liberia Iron Ore Ltd.
Acquisition of a 53.8% stake in High River Gold, the owner of a number of plants in the Buryatia and Amur Regions (Russia) and a gold mine in Burkina Faso (Africa). This acquisition makes Severstal Russia’s second largest gold mining Company.
Acquisition of PBS Coals, a coking coal producer based in Pennsylvania, USA.
Acquisition of Esmark Incorporated based in West Virginia. The company is later renamed Severstal Wheeling Reorganization of OAO Severstal.
Acquisition of Sparrows Point based in Maryland, USA. The Company is later renamed Severstal Sparrows Point.
Acquisition of exploration and gold mining licences for six fields in the Irkutsk Region and Trans-Baikal Province.
Three divisions are created: Severstal Russian Steel, Severstal Resources and Severstal International.
Severstal introduces a new brand and mission, vision and values for the company. A project is launched to transform the Company's corporate culture.
Severstal approves a new corporate governance system and incorporates independent directors into its Board of Directors.
Severstal's shares are listed on MICEX.
Acquisition of a controlling stake in Kuzbassugol.
Acquisition of Vorkutaugol, comprising several mines and coking coal production and beneficiation plants in the Republic of Komi, Russia.
Acquisition of a controlling stake in Olenegorsk Mining and Processing Integrated Works, specializing in the extraction of iron ore and production of iron ore concentrate (Murmansk Region, Russia).
Severstal's shares are listed on the RTS.
Acquisition of the controlling stake in Karelian Pellet, an iron ore pellet manufacturer based in the Republic of Karelia, Russia.
The Cherepovets Steel Mill was registered as an Open Joint Stock Company called "Severstal".
The first Cherepovets cast iron is produced. August 24th, 1955, is considered the birth date of the Cherepovets Steel Mill.
Construction of Cherepovets Steel Mill in the Vologda Region.
Decree of the Government of the USSR on the Organization of Metallurgical Base in the North-West of the USSR overlooking construction of a metal-working plant in Cherepovets.
Severstal floats on the London Stock Exchange.

Operations begin at Izhora Pipe Mill in the Leningrad region, Russia.
According to Metal Bulletin ratings, Severstal remains the largest producer in the CIS by volume of steel.
Severstal acquires Rouge Steel, an integrated steel making facility based in Michigan, USA. The Company is later renamed Severstal Dearborn.
Severstal acquires Celtic Resources, a gold mining Company with a number of assets in Kazakhstan. A Gold Mining segment is created within Severstal Resources.
